The situation we are experiencing as a result of the Covid-19 has made us adapt to changes constantly in this innovation cycle.

An example of this has been the adaptation of all the activities that have been done since mid-March to online format by using several remote work tools such as Teams, Zoom and Miro, which has allowed to interact with the several innovation-prototyping cells individually during the workshops and meetings, and make customized dynamics. We have also made a greater use of the digital platform of SOM-INN PORT, where the results of each workshop have been uploaded, as well as the videos of the training sessions, the inspiring pitches and the workshops carried out that were recorded to facilitate the monitoring of the cycle to all innovation agents.

She also pointed out that the development of the activities carried out has required a great deal of flexibility and motivation from all the people involved.

The challenges faced during this cycle were pre-selected by the Innovation Commission of SOM-INN PORT and finally selected by the Innovation Committee of the Tarragona Port Authority (TPA), from all the challenges previously proposed by the members and innovation agents of SOM-INN PORT through the digital platform, and also proposed by the management team of the TPA in a workshop done on challenges.

The innovation agents voluntarily chose if they wanted to actively participate in this innovation cycle and in which challenge they wanted to be involved.

The selected challenges, the generated innovation-prototyping cells, the innovation agents and the external experts who participated are the following:

The activities carried out for the innovation-prototyping cells have been:

Workshop 1: Empathy and creativity.

Workshop 2: Concept and design of the prototype.

Prototype work with the support of external experts.

Workshop 2.2: Internal feedback of the prototype and guidelines for validation with the users.

Concept and prototype validation with potential users

Workshop 3.1: Business model

Workshop 3.2: Preparation of the pitch and presentation

The activities carried out by the whole Ecosystem and also by the cells have been:

Trainings in

Creativity techniques.

Innovation in times of crisis

Communication and project presentation techniques.

Digital tools.

Inspiring Pitches:

Open innovation.

Empathy and creativity.

Concept and prototype design.

Then, Ignasi Clos and Helena Aguilar from INDUCT presented the innovation-prototyping cells and their members explained the work done and showed their prototypes as solutions to the challenges posed:

Challenge 1 Innovation Cell: How should the Port adapt to the arrival of heavy autonomous vehicles?

The solution and the elaborated prototype consists of a platform that uses loT to facilitate the circulation and the operation of the AV inside the port, with installation of sensors in concrete places of the port that send information of the situation of the AV to the platform in real time.
