During the first part of the conference, María Jesús Puerta, a mining engineer and specialist in innovation, artificial intelligence and sustainability, gave an engaging and inspiring talk entitled “From Earth to the Moon and Mars: When Technology Makes the Improbable Possible”, exploring how innovation, artificial intelligence and engineering can help us turn major challenges into real projects. During her presentation, she shared her experience of entering and winning NASA’s LunaRecycle Challenge with a proposal based on digital twins. An example of how an idea can be transformed into a real solution and why it is not necessary to be a large organisation to start innovating.

She also encouraged attendees to reflect on the importance of developing skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to learn and adapt, which are increasingly relevant in a constantly evolving professional and business environment.

The second inspiring talk, entitled “New Skills for New Opportunities”, was delivered by Jordina Torrents, a computer engineer with a PhD in artificial intelligence, deep learning and medical imaging. During her presentation, she addressed the skills that are becoming increasingly important today, such as critical thinking, creativity and the ability to learn, as well as how to incorporate AI in a useful, safe and responsible way. She offered an accessible and practical perspective on how artificial intelligence is transforming the way we work, learn, look for jobs and start businesses.

The second part of the conference included several workshops on interesting topics such as:

  • New professional profiles: how to prepare for the future.

  • The biggest mistake companies make with AI: implementing it before knowing how to protect it.

  • Thinking when everything changes. Creativity, adaptation and innovation in the age of AI.

SOM-INN PORT’s participation in this conference reflects its commitment to open innovation, digital transformation and engagement with the local entrepreneurial and business ecosystem. Initiatives of this kind provide opportunities to learn about emerging trends, share knowledge and identify tools and approaches that can help drive innovation in the port and logistics sectors.

Congratulations to the Tarragona Impulsa team on organising this conference!!
