{"id":20302,"date":"2026-10-07T14:31:30","date_gmt":"2026-10-07T14:31:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/?p=20302"},"modified":"2026-10-07T14:31:31","modified_gmt":"2026-10-07T14:31:31","slug":"som-inn-port-participates-in-the-event-promoting-the-blue-economy-in-europe-strategies-and-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/en\/som-inn-port-participates-in-the-event-promoting-the-blue-economy-in-europe-strategies-and-results\/","title":{"rendered":"SOM-INN PORT participates in the event \u201cPromoting the blue economy in Europe: strategies and results\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On September 30, SOM-INN PORT attended the event &#8220;Promoting the blue economy in Europe: strategies and results&#8221;, which took place at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park, organised by the Directorate-General for Maritime Policy and Sustainable Fisheries of the Government of Catalonia and the Centre for Agro-food Economics and Development Research (CREDA).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting brought together representatives of the European Commission, officials responsible for blue economy and fisheries policies from various autonomous communities (Catalonia, Galicia, the Canary Islands, Andalusia and the Basque Country), as well as representatives of public administrations, research centres and other stakeholders linked to the sector. This ecosystem has a significant impact on economic activity, employment and value generation in coastal territories.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"399\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-9-edited.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20297\" style=\"width:283px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-9-edited.png 399w, https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-9-edited-296x300.png 296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Round table \u201cThe blue economy as a driver of local development\u201d\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Catalonia has a significant role in the European blue economy. During the meeting, the latest available data on the scale of the blue economy in Catalonia and Europe were presented. According to the European Commission\u2019s Blue Economy Observatory, the gross value added (GVA) of the Catalan blue economy represents 3% of the sector as a whole in Europe and 20% of the total in Spain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"693\" height=\"441\" src=\"https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-14.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20289\" style=\"width:481px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-14.png 693w, https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-14-300x191.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 693px) 100vw, 693px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Measuring the blue economy: Methodologies and indicators\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data for 2023 show the scale of this area of activity in Catalonia: The blue economy generated \u20ac27.947 billion in turnover, \u20ac8.001 billion in GVA and 185,061 jobs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"774\" height=\"414\" src=\"https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-13.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20288\" style=\"width:574px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-13.png 774w, https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-13-300x160.png 300w, https:\/\/sominnport.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-13-768x411.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 774px) 100vw, 774px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Beyond direct indicators: Indirect impacts and territorial value\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Innovation and collaboration to advance the blue economy. The event highlighted the importance of having territorial strategies and governance mechanisms that facilitate coordination among the different stakeholders in the maritime ecosystem.
