Description of the project<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has selected the company Milence, a strategic collaboration between Daimler Truck, Volvo Group and TRATON GROUP, to carry out an innovative project that will boost the transition to electric transport in the region.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This project consists of the development of two electric charging centres located in the Goordijk and Ketenis truck parks, located within the Antwerp port area. These centres, scheduled for launch in May 2024, will initially have 30 charging stations, with plans for expansion in the second phase of the development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The electric charging centres will be equipped with 15 high-performance combined charging system (CCS) chargers, offering a charging power of up to 400 kilowatts (kW). The port already produces a large amount of renewable energy locally with solar panels and wind turbines, which is used to power its daily operations, including the new electrical charging centre. Milence’s vision focuses on creating green corridors for road transport, connecting key logistics centres, ports and airports.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The fundamental purpose of these electric charging hubs is to accelerate the transition to electric transport by building a reliable and safe network for heavy electric trucks.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This project, funded by the Flemish Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, aims to remove the obstacles that prevent transport companies from using electric trucks, thus marking a crucial milestone in transport sustainability.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Objectives of the project<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

By moving towards a circular economy and major investments in the energy transition, the port of Antwerp-Bruges aims to eliminate its carbon emissions by 2050.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this context, integrating renewable energy in the transport sector appears to be a vital priority. With this collaboration, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Milence seek to centralise efforts to remove one of the main obstacles preventing transport companies from making the transition to electric trucks, thus contributing to achieving their sustainable goals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
