WasteShark, the robot that collects marine waste and water quality data

Project leader

The company in charge of the project is RanMarine with the support of PortXL and the Port of Rotterdam.

Description of the project

WasteShark is an autonomous robot that collects plastics and marine waste. It has a jaw-shaped system capable of collecting not only waste but also natural elements that can affect water quality, as in the case of some aquatic plants. In addition, it is also able to collect data on water quality.

The water robot is 1.57 meters long, 1.09 meters wide, 52 centimeters tall and weighs 75 kilos. It is controlled through 4G, has a range of 3 kilometers and a range of 6 hours. It should also be noted that it is emission-free and does not generate any other pollution in the water.

The project is currently in the validation phase. A very promising prototype has been tested in the Port of Rotterdam.

Objectives of the project

The objective of the project is to build a tool capable of collecting as much waste as possible in a simple and manageable way, free of emissions and easy to implement.
