On November 28th, at the “Teatret del Serrallo” in the Port of Tarragona, the 3rd session of the Som-Inn Port Agora was held where the innovation cells finally presented their proposals for innovation to the executives and representatives of the member entities of the Open Innovation Ecosystem of the Port of Tarragona.
The innovation proposals are the result of a series of co-innovation workshops through Design Thinking, boosted by Induct, and carried out during the second half of 2018 within the framework of the open innovation pilot cycle of Som-Inn Port.
During this pilot cycle, as has already been reported in the web page of Som-Inn Port, innovation cells have been formed composed of innovation agents, representatives of different member entities, thus forming multidisciplinary teams that have approached the cycle of innovation from a different perspective, and therefore, making the innovation process an initiative, if any, richer in knowledge, skills and abilities.
Presentation of one of the Innovation cells
Six innovation proposals have been presented to solve five innovation challenges, which the innovation cells themselves defined during the first Design Thinking workshops. After the respective presentations, each cell was able to receive feedback from the other cells and also from the representatives and managers of the member entities of Som-Inn Port. This is very important feedback with regard to the prototype phase.
During this session, Som-Inn Port also awarded the most active agents of innovation during the pilot cycle of co-innovation through Design Thinking:
The seven innovation agents awarded by Som-Inn Port
At this point, the member entities of Som-Inn Port must decide on which proposals they want to involve themselves in, to prototype them and validate the value proposal with the potential users .
This process will be carried out from January 2019 with external experts, which will help to make the prototypes of the proposals, and also with a team of consultants that will help capture the feedback and insights of the users. The methodology used will be that of Design Sprint, designed by Google.
This phase will represent the final part of the pilot innovation cycle of Som-Inn Port, and will be at the same time the starting point for the implementation of new innovation projects in the Port of Tarragona. This is as long as user feedback, respecting the prototypes, have been positive, and as long as the member entities participating in each Design Sprint cell are finally interested.
Carme Tarragó, Head of Studies and Innovation Department of the TPA, explaining the opportunities that open up for the possible financing of the innovation projects resulting from the prototype phase, through the “Puertos 4.0” fund.
We are grateful for the effort made during the co-innovation process by all the innovation agents of Som-Inn Port, since, as we know, innovation calls for extra effort to leave the comfort zone. We also encourage the members of Som-Inn Port to get involved in the prototype phase of the proposals that are of most interest to them.
Som-Inn Port will continue to consolidate the open innovation of the Port Community of Tarragona and that of its stakeholders.
