SOM-INN PORT’s attendance at the II Smart Ports Chair Conference, Smart Ports: New Perspectives

On Wednesday, February 5, SOM-INN PORT attended the II Conference organized by the Smart Ports Chair of the Universitat Jaume I, the Port of Castellón and Puertos del Estado.  The event, titled ‘Smart Ports: New Perspectives’, took place in Grau de Castelló.

This second edition of the conference aimed to give visibility to several projects that use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the efficiency and safety of logistics and port operations. The contents of the conference can be accessed at the following link.

Following the opening speech by Rubén Ibáñez, President of the Port Authority of Castellón, and a presentation by Francisco Toledo, Director of the Chair, the talk “Digitalization of Ports: From Data to Knowledge” by Jaime Luezas, Head of the Services Area in the Port Community of Puertos del Estado, kicked off the day. The event continued with the presentation of six projects from the Ports 4.0 call that use AI to improve various aspects that will bring competitive advantages to ports.

These projects include Guardian Ilot, which improves predictive and preventive maintenance, safety and productivity of equipment operating in terminals, by SIBRE Brakes Spain; OCR Disruption, which tracks and identifies cargo assets anywhere, regardless of the type of load, from AllRead Machine Learning Technologies; Sirena, which monitors and analyzes dynamic risks for the security of assets and operation in a smart port, from Grupo NUNSYS; Simu-Port, which optimises logistics and port operations for RO-PAX traffic through simulation hybridisation and artificial intelligence, from ISOIN, and Compass+, which provides real-time information and reliable and accurate predictions of docked vessel operating conditions and interference with port traffic, from SIPORT XXI.

The event continued with presentations on security and smart ports. Eva María Muñoz from ETRA I+D introduced the HOPLON platform for comprehensive port security management, while Daniel San Miguel from 5G Security Solutions discussed cybersecurity in ports.

Next, José Llorca, head of innovation at Puertos del Estado and head of the Ports 4.0 capital fund, moderated the round table “Intrapreneurship in the Ports 4.0 programme“, which included the interventions of David González, from the Port Authority of Barcelona; Cristina López, from the Port Authority of Bilbao; Bernat Ibáñez, from the Port Authority of Castellón and Christian Manrique, from the Port Authority of Santander.

The round table concluded with an emphasis on the need for Port Authorities to establish a structure supporting intrapreneurship, as well as for Ports 4.0 to continue fostering developed ideas to ensure their long-term viability.

To end the day, David Rodríguez, from Deep Insight, presented the VIPE Project Demo, a system for control, monitoring, and early warning based on the geometric evolution of damage to port infrastructure.

Manuel J. García, Director of the Port Authority of Castellón, thanked the attendees for their participation and officially closed the event.
