SOM-INN PORT provided members and innovation agents of the Ecosystem with the opportunity to participate in the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) and Smart Ports: Piers for Future 2021, which took place on 16th, 17th and 18th November at the Gran Via Fira centre of Fira de Barcelona in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.
In its tenth edition, the SCEWC continues to focus on how to improve the lives of city residents through innovation and technology, turning them into smart cities. The international summit has been configured around eight themes: Technologies, Energy and Environment, Mobility, Governance, Life and Inclusion, Economy, Infrastructure and Buildings, Safety and Security. These themes will be used to address crucial issues such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, new energy and mobility models, digital governance, improved sustainability, resilience, 5G, collaboration between ports and cities, etc.
The SCEWC has been held in a hybrid way. Many of the presentations were in a face-to-face format, although a digital programme was also broadcast in parallel via the Tomorrow city platform.
During the three days, technological solutions and products from 452 exhibiting companies and organisations were on display and the reflections of nearly 350 speakers were heard. There were 14,934 on-site participants as well as 21,210 online participants from 120 countries. There were also 81 side events.
Smart Ports Piers for Future was held on 16th and 17 November within the framework of SCEWC, which meant that the Smart City programme also included a discussion on smart ports and how ports and the cities should collaborate to improve their services to citizens.
In its 3rd edition, Smart Ports has allowed us to get to know the innovative strategies and innovative projects of the ports organising this congress: Antwerp, Barcelona, Busan, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Montreal and Rotterdam. This year, the guest ports were London and Gothenburg.
During the two days, which took place on 16th and 17th November, the speakers dealt with innovation in the ports through the SMART philosophy (Sustainability, Multimodal, Agility, Resilience, and Transparency). Different successful applications developed in their fields and mainly based on the application of new technologies, such as 5G, artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, drones or the use of HyperPort technology, among others, were presented. Other aspects such as the energy transition to ports and the maritime industry, electric mobility, digitalisation in all areas of transport and logistics and the blue economy were also discussed.
Apart from some presentations that took place in a face-to-face format, most of them were streamed for smartports.tv. The event had more than 6,000 participants from all over the world and 20,000 views.
The presentations are recorded and can be replayed via the following link: https://smartports.tv/2021
We are grateful for the participation of the members of SOM-INN PORT in these two important events, which are sources of innovation and motivation for the various member entities of the Open Innovation Ecosystem of the Port of Tarragona to continue collaborating in order to find innovative solutions to current and future challenges.
