On 6 March, the Conference Sistema Metropolità d’Innovació was held at FiraReus Events, organised by the Tarragona Provincial Council with the collaboration of REDESSA, the Catalunya Sud ICT Cluster, RàdioCiutat Baix Camp and Diari Més.
The conference, framed within the metropolitan project of El Camp de Tarragona, revolved around how a metropolitan innovation system can be a driver for the transformation of cities and how the structuring of an innovation ecosystem around the economic and social challenges of the territory is one of the key elements to achieve this.
After the welcome given by Sandra Guaita, Mayor of Reus, and Vale Pino, Deputy for European Projects of the Tarragona Provincial Council, Áurea Rodríguez, Director of the EIT Culture and Creativity SW gave the conference “Europe and innovation and industry systems”.

This was followed by the round table “Technological innovation and decarbonisation, key elements for competitiveness”, moderated by the journalist Oriol Aymí, and which included the interventions of Emilio Palomares, director general of ICIQ and professor at ICREA; Ignasi Cañagueral, president of the AEQT and director of DOW Tarragona; Carles Segura, deputy director general of the Port Authority of Tarragona, and Mònica Boquera, coordinator of the Regions of Knowledge programme at CATSUD, Generalitat de Catalunya.
The day continued with the conference “Strategy for an innovative metropolitan system in the Camp de Tarragona”, given by Miquel Barceló, president of the consulting firm Fractacology SL and member of the advisory board of 22@Network and the Global Institute of Innovation.

The talk was followed by the round table “Metropolitan Innovation System”, moderated by Àlex Grau, general coordinator of the Tarragona Provincial Council, and in which Àurea Rodríguez, Miquel Barceló, Susana Prado, general director of INETUM Catalunya and president of the 22@Network Barcelona, and Joan Romero, executive director of ACCIÓ – Agency for Business Competitiveness of the Generalitat de Catalunya, took part.

Finally, the closing ceremony was given by Marta Ventura, delegate of the Innovation and Technology Area of the Tarragona Provincial Council and Pablo Mazón, CEO of Movertis and president of the ICT Cluster Southern Catalonia.
SOM-INN PORT, Open Innovation Ecosystem of the Port of Tarragona, wanted to be present at this conference, in order to access the knowledge about innovation in the metropolitan area of Camp de Tarragona that was shared and also to establish collaborations and alliances with the different innovation agents that participated.
