SOM-INN PORT at SCEWC and Smart Ports 2024

This week, on 5, 6 and 7 November, the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) and Smart Ports: Piers of the Future were held  at the Fira de Barcelona venue in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.  SOM-INN PORT has attended these important meeting points of innovation.

With more than 25,000 attendees, 1,100 exhibitors and 600 speakers from more than 850 cities, SCEWC 2024 has once again been a resounding success in its 13th edition, reaffirming itself as an important event for the presentation of urban innovation solutions.

Session “How to capitalise on the transformative power of IA”

With the aim of collectivizing urban innovation around the world and empowering cities to address the critical challenges they face today, the SCEWC has brought together leaders from global businesses, governments, and organizations to move cities toward a better future.

The congress has dealt with topics of interest within the sections of:

  2. Energy and Environment
  3. Mobility
  4. Governance i Economy
  5. Living and Inclusion
  6. Infrastructure and Building
  7. Blue Economy

Within the framework of the Blue Economy, the sixth edition of Smart Ports: Piers of the Future has been held, which, with the slogan “Creating Ports that Inspire”, has brought together experts in sustainability, innovation and port technology to discuss transformative solutions that will contribute to the construction of the ports of the future.

Innovation has been the central theme of Smart Ports 2024, which has also dealt with the relations between ports and cities, the blue economy and sustainability initiatives.

The event featured speeches from the Port of Barcelona, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the Port of Los Angeles, the Port Authority of Gothenburg, the Port of Long Beach, the Port of Quebec, the Port of Seattle, the Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) and the Port Authority of Hamburg.

SOM INN PORT, has had the opportunity to attend several outstanding sessions within the event, such as:

  • Panel Session: “Building a sustainable blue economy: cross-sector innovations for port-city synergy”: An enriching discussion on how innovative tools can foster sustainability in the blue economy, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to transform the dynamics between ports and cities into economic and environmental opportunities.

  • Project Spotlight: “BlueTechPort: a groundbreaking building dedicated to the development of the Blue Economy”: A presentation of the Port of Barcelona’s Innovation Hub, the BlueTech Port, where they explained that the Port Vell is an outstanding part of the Port of Barcelona’s global innovation ecosystem.Two unique buildings have been used to house technological innovation and blue economy initiatives.
    The BlueTech Port, located in the coworking space of Pier 01, promotes collaborative innovation in the Port of Barcelona.The BlueTechPort will have its definitive headquarters in the sheds of the Moll de Sant Bertran, with the aim of being a global benchmark in innovation and sustainability to lead the development of BlueTech, the technology in the sustainable marine economy.

These sessions have allowed SOM INN PORT to gain valuable insights into how other ports are addressing current challenges by leveraging emerging technologies to foster sustainable and resilient growth.

Attendance at Smart Ports: Piers of the Future reaffirms SOM INN PORT’s commitment to innovation, reinforcing its position as a key player in the Port of Tarragona’s progress towards a smarter, more efficient port that is connected to its city and environment.
