Digital network to connect seaports and inland ports on the Rhine

Project leader

Port of Rotterdam, in collaboration with Portbase Port Community System (PCS), together with RheinPorts RiverPorts Planning and Information System (RPIS).

Description of the project

The project to digitize sea and inland port networks, led by the Port of Rotterdam, is distinguished by its innovative approach to the implementation of cutting-edge digital technologies to create an interconnected network of sea and indland ports, which allows instantaneous communication and seamless collaboration between the different actors in the logistics chain to optimize data exchange.

This innovative initiative represents a significant milestone in the evolution of global port logistics. In an increasingly interconnected world, efficiency and agility are fundamental to maintaining competitiveness and meeting the demands of international trade.

Fluid data transfer facilitates the optimization of import and export processes, improves planning and simplifies communication with stakeholders. This advance reduces complexity in logistics chains, benefiting carriers, terminals, ports and other partners.

This project aims to create a safe and efficient digital corridor to share data, simplifying operations and improving efficiency in maritime transport and port activities. Expected profits reach importers, exporters, terminal operators, carriers, port authorities and customs officials.

The test phase is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024 so that the start-up phase can take place in 2025.

Objectives of the project

The project to digitize maritime and indland port networks led by the Port of Rotterdam is an innovative initiative that seeks to improve efficiency and transparency in global port logistics.

The objective of the project is to have a common platform to share information and coordinate activities among the various actors involved in the port logistics chain.

By integrating digital systems, the aim is to reduce waiting times, minimise bottlenecks and optimize the resources available in sea and river ports.
