New Crew Control System to improve the safety of Port of Tarragona’s accesses

Project Description

Since 2012, the Tarragona Port Authority has implemented the Port access control system, which registers and checks drivers of vehicles and accredited pedestrians who access, drive or leave the Port with temporary or permanent accreditations.

The increase of vessels docked in the Port of Tarragona due to the commercial and port activity generated demonstrated the need to improve the current access control system including complementary measures. The schedules and availability of port operations makes the safety control of the crew complex.

That is why the TPA has tendered the development and implementation of the Crew Control System for an estimated value of € 95,000.

This system has been designed by the Information Systems’ management and by the management of the public domain and port protection of the TPA and will be adapted to the general access control system that is already in use.

Project objectives

The main objective is to improve the management of the entry and exit of crew members in the port area from the point of view of control, security and schedule.

Expected benefits of innovation

This new system is a security innovation that will enable better control and management of the authorizations of the entrances and exits to the port area of the crew members.
