Project description

EURECAT submitted the NASAPP project to the 2nd Call for Commercial Projects of PORTS 4.0, with the support of the Port Authority of Tarragona, and the project was selected in order to receive a grant to enable its development and subsequent commercialisation in port environments.

NASAPP is a SaaS multi-layer data platform capable of integrating the olfactory sensory perception of citizens in real time in order to act as an early warning system for critical events and environmental monitoring by determining the source, overcoming the limitations of current equipment that does not allow in situ quantification of odour episodes with the precision of human olfaction.

The platform is already commercialised in non-port environments.

This project has a budget of 232,910.25€. It has obtained a grant from PORTS 4.0 of 65%, €151,391.66. The remaining 35%, €81,518.58, will be financed by EURECAT.

It is materialised as an application and with a web manager capable of integrating the olfactory sensory perception of citizens in real time in order to act as an early warning system for critical events and environmental monitoring by determining the source, overcoming the limitations of current equipment that does not allow in situ quantification of odour episodes with the precision of human olfaction.

Project objectives

To provide an application and a web manager capable of integrating the olfactory sensory perception of citizens in real time in port environments in order to act as an early warning system for critical events and environmental monitoring by determining the source, overcoming the limitations of current equipment that do not allow in situ quantification of odour episodes with the precision of human olfaction.

Enhance the competitive advantages of the platform in order to achieve full commercialisation of the platform by the port environment, including:

  • Demonstration of the complete system in the logistics-port environment of the Port of Tarragona.
  • Improvements in the usability of the platform.
  • Automation of reports.
  • Integration of air quality data from open data sources.
  • Predictive algorithms based on historical data.

Expected benefits of the innovation

Monitor odours in port environments in real time through the concept of citizen science or participation, modifying the current tools for measuring odour concentration with field olfactometry, with pollutant dispersion studies and/or in laboratories, using human sensors to estimate the concentration of odours and their dispersion in the territory.

The implementation of this project will allow the Port of Tarragona to be the first port to have and use this new and innovative platform.
