Innovative solution in maritime surveillance

Innovative solution in maritime surveillance

Project Manager

The project is a collaboration between the companies Sirius Insight, specialists in advanced data analysis and solutions based on artificial intelligence, and Cambridge Pixel, leaders in radar systems and sensor processing.

Project description

Sirius Insight and Cambridge Pixel have joined forces to develop an innovative artificial intelligence (AI)-based maritime surveillance solution designed to improve situational awareness in complex maritime environments and meet the growing need for more advanced tools that enable maritime operators to efficiently and safely manage and anticipate potential incidents.

This innovation combines the capabilities of radar and sensor systems developed by Cambridge Pixel with AI algorithms designed by Sirius Insight to analyze large volumes of data in real time. This allows not only the detection of objects in the water, but also their automatic classification and more accurate tracking. Unlike traditional systems, this tool, which uses Big Data and Machine Learning, is capable of identifying patterns and anomalies in the behavior of tracked objects, quickly alerting operators of possible threats or irregularities.

This tool also has the ability to merge data from multiple sources (radar, cameras, and additional sensors) and process it using artificial intelligence to provide detailed information that facilitates real-time action. This allows agencies and governments to make faster and more effective decisions, especially in critical situations. In addition, the tool is highly scalable and can be adapted to specific needs, making it a pioneering solution in the field of maritime surveillance.

Currently, the solution has already been implemented and is up and running on the UK coast. Sirius Insight has successfully integrated Cambridge Pixel’s radar tracking software into its solutions, enabling the reception of radar video from vessels and combining it with data from automatic identification systems (AIS) to provide a more complete view of maritime activity.

The data collected is stored in the cloud, facilitating real-time monitoring and alerting to unusual activity, such as large vessels that do not transmit AIS signals, harmful fishing practices, or illegal smuggling.

Project objectives

The main objective of the project is to provide agencies and governments with an advanced tool to improve situational awareness in maritime environments. Through accurate and updated data in real time, it seeks to optimize maritime traffic management, facilitating more efficient coordination in areas where the volume of operations can be especially complex.

In addition, it aims to significantly increase safety in maritime operations, thanks to its ability to detect suspicious activity early, identify dangerous objects and assess adverse conditions.

Overall, the project aims to transform the way maritime operations are managed, while strengthening security and promoting sustainable practices, positioning itself as a powerful tool for maritime surveillance.
