Innovative inland transport management solution at the PSA terminal of the Port of Singapore: OptETruck

Project leader

PSA Singapore, one of the main terminals of the Port of Singapore, in collaboration with HERE Technologies, is responsible for the project.

Description of the project

PSA Singapore, in collaboration with HERE Technologies, are playing a key role in the digitisation and decarbonisation of the container trucking industry. The two have collaborated to develop OptETruck, an innovative cloud-based ground transportation management solution that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to facilitate smarter journey planning and eliminate operational inefficiencies in the Port Singapore trucking community. This approach aims to improve asset utilisation, reduce carbon emissions, and optimise operational costs.

OptETruck has key features, including automated scheduling enabled by a predictive algorithm that combines real-time data to maximise resource utilisation. This tool can assign jobs to drivers based on their location, optimising truck routing and assignments. Another important aspect of OptETruck is asset pooling, which allows carriers and their partners to share resources to optimise fleets and journeys. This system not only minimises empty runs but also ensures that drivers receive jobs near their current location, with the aim of improving transit and waiting times, driver wellbeing and operational efficiency, while reducing carbon emissions.

OptETruck received the Digital Achievers (Team) award at the Tech Leader Awards 2023, which highlights PSA’s commitment to digital transformation to co-create agile, resilient, and sustainable supply chains.

PSA Singapore seeks to disseminate these innovative digital capabilities to small and medium-sized enterprises, with the aim of raising the competitiveness of the transport community, driving greater business agility, and improving the sustainability of the transport ecosystem.

The Port of Tarragona has the SEA system, agri-food focused delivery system, to facilitate the collection of goods from agri-food terminals for the buyer and the transporter.

Both cases highlight the growing importance of technological solutions in improving efficiency and sustainability in the port transport sector.

Objectives of the project

The main objectives of the project are to transform and optimise the container trucking industry at the Port of Singapore through the implementation of OptETruck. Supported by HERE Technologies and PSA Singapore, the project aims to digitise and decarbonise the supply chain through the introduction of an end-to-end cloud-based solution. The initiative aims to significantly reduce empty trips, increase asset utilisation and, at the same time, reduce the carbon footprint of container transport. In addition, the project aims to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises in the logistics sector by providing innovative digital solutions that improve efficiency and generate cost savings.
