Innovation is one of the key action areas outlined in the Strategic Framework for the State-Owned Port System, which aims to guide the future of ports with a 2030 horizon. This framework gives Innovation a vital role, considering it a prerequisite for the successful implementation of all other strategic action lines.
According to the Strategic Framework, Port Authorities are responsible for promoting and supporting innovative strategies and projects that drive the local economy surrounding ports, especially within the context of blue growth.
Within this framework and considering that the current Innovation Plan dates back to 2011, the Port Authority of Tarragona is now developing a new Innovation Plan for the Port of Tarragona for the 2025–2030 period, with the aim of establishing a renewed innovation strategy.
This new plan will set out a roadmap that enables the Port of Tarragona to take on a leading role in Innovation within the field of the Blue Economy.
To that end, the Department of Innovation and Blue Economy of the Port Authority, with the technical assistance of SDLI, is working on the development of this new plan. The first two phases have already been completed: Phase 1 Diagnosis and Positioning, and Phase 2 Innovation Vision and Strategy.
In recent weeks, several meetings have been held with different stakeholders to assess the current state of innovation in the Blue Economy at the Port of Tarragona, identify needs, and gather perspectives on future priorities and direction.
Phase 3 will be developed in September and will focus on defining the roadmap to be followed.
The new Innovation Plan for the Port of Tarragona is expected to be presented in October.
