AI-based system to assist in boat navigation and berthing

South Korean startup Seadronix was founded in December 2015 by three partners: Park, Donghun Kim (co-CTO) and Hankeun Kim (co-CTO). All the founders previously worked as freelance cargo ship researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and decided to turn their studios into a business.

Project description:

Seadronix has developed a monitoring and navigation system to provide assistance in the berthing process. The main novelty of this technology is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to produce 360-degree maps with high-precision information on the surrounding situation: it recognizes objects on the surface of the sea, from small mooring ropes to large ships.

Its flagship products include the AI-based berthing monitoring system (AVISS) and the AI-based panoramic view monitoring system (NAVISS). AVISS uses vision sensors and LiDAR to assist large ships in the docking process, while NAVISS can be adapted to cargo ships to support navigation in different situations.

Project objective:

The aim of the Seadronix project is to reduce marine accidents and improve safety and environmental protection in the ocean. By implementing its AI-based vessel docking and navigation monitoring systems, the company aims to minimize human error and help cargo ships safely navigate and dock at ports. In addition, Seadronix seeks to promote the concept of smart ports that use technologies such as AI, big data, IoT and 5G to improve security, energy efficiency and digitize operations in the traditional shipping industry. Through global market expansion and team growth, the company aims to establish itself as a leading AI platform in the maritime industry, contributing to the safety and sustainability of ocean environments.
