ABB and Keppel O&M collaborate on the creation of an autonomous tug with remote control at the Port of Singapore

Project description

The partnership between ABB and Keppel O&M has enabled the Port of Singapore to incorporate an autonomous tug that operates remotely. The tug can be controlled from a remote location via a joystick and a touch screen. Technologies such as digital twins are being used in addition to data analysis tools to maximize the efficiency of tug’s control and response. Being controlled remotely allows the operator to have a greater view of the vessel’s environment by combining information from different sources into a global view. The next step will be the implementation of AI and machine learning systems to identify obstacles, avoid collisions, and implement voice planning.

Project objective

Automate as many tasks as possible to reduce the crew’s workload so that they can do their best during critical periods, thereby improving overall safety and simplifying maritime operations.
