A.IKANBILIS: autonomous underwater vehicle for easy underwater inspections

Project leader

The head of the innovation project is BeeX Autonomous Systems, a deeptech engineering division of the National University of Singapore.

Project description

A.IKANBILIS is an autonomous underwater vehicle designed to facilitate underwater operations. It was used to carry out inspections on the floating anchorage and mooring system of solar farms in Singapore. This vehicle was created from the concept of autonomous operation and maintenance (AOM) which refers to overcoming the capacities of human personnel to achieve greater efficiency. It was achieved using trained computers in machine learning to mimic human cognition.

The A.IKANBILIS project was the winner of the 2020 Smart Ports Challenge.

Project objective

Achieve more efficient, intelligent, and faster underwater inspections, reducing human intervention and therefore costs. Currently, the high costs of deploying the inspection are a reason for asset owners to carry out inspections every 1-5 years, which means that they only meet the minimum of regulatory regulations. This project will allow these inspections to be carried out more frequently.
