Description of the project  

Renexia has chosen the company Technip Energies to carry out the engineering and frontal design (FEED) of the floating marine wind project Med Wind, which will be located in the Mediterranean Sea, about 50 kilometers from the west coast of the island of Sicilia. Renexia is a company specialized in the development and operation of renewable energy installations, while Technip Energies is recognized for its experience in engineering and technology for the energy transition.

In this collaboration, Renexia and Technip Energies will work together on the design of the 190 floating platforms, the mooring systems of the wind turbines and the design of marine substations, which will also be floating. This floating marine aeolian park will have a capacity of 2,800 megawatts.

The design of floating infrastructures will be based on technip Energies’ INO15 floating solution, which consists of a three-column semi-suspended float. With this project, Renexia and Technip Energies aspire to contribute significantly to Italy’s renewable objectives and their decarbonisation.

Project information links   

The objective of the project is quite ambitious, it is intended to develop the largest floating marine wind park in the Mediterranean. It is estimated that the park will have sufficient capacity to meet the demand of more than three million Italian homes. The project represents an opportunity for the development of renewable energy in the Mediterranean.
