Project description

The port of Tanger MED has signed an agreement with the company Wartsila for the implementation of a new port management information system as well as a new maritime traffic service (VTS) with the aim of promoting maritime digitalization. These systems  incorporate cutting-edge technologies that will be used to facilitate regional connections and trade.  The new systems will make it possible to manage day-to-day activities more efficiently by automating workflows, contributing the improvement of JIT shipments and enabling better data exchange between stakeholders. It will also mean an improvement in performance indicators such as reduced downtime. In addition, the optimization of scales and the digitization of processes, will allow them to be more ambitious with their productivity objectives. This process improvement will also lead to the acceleration of initiatives such as the “African  Port  Task  Force”.

Project objectives

The overall objective of the project is to turn the Tanger MED into a reference smart port. With the implementation of the new PMIS and VTS systems, the aim is to achieve an improvement in port logistics. In particular, the objectives of the port are to improve traffic management by being able to anticipate possible traffic congestions, improve the efficiency of information processing and optimize nautical resources.
