2020 did not leave anyone indifferent and, despite the fact that at Som-Inn Port we are used to change management, this past Open Innovation Cycle we have been even more flexible and innovative than ever to continue generating value for the members of our ecosystem.
The situation as a consequence of COVID-19 meant that the activities planned from the beginning had to be redesigned and reprogrammed: Adaptation to the online environment with the support of digital tools such as Zoom, Teams and Miro; making the involvement of the innovation agents more flexible to enable their participation in workshops and activities by reducing the volume of tasks and filming the sessions; customization of the dynamics at workshops to extract the maximum possible performance in the shortest time; trainings adapted to the current situation such as “Innovating in times of crisis” among others and interaction between participants through the room division functionality with Zoom tool.
Sessions in digital format of the Open Innovation Cycle 2020
Although in Som-Inn Port we already made use of the digital environment through our platform, to adapt the entire cycle to this new reality and guarantee the satisfaction of Som-Inn Port members and agents, assessment surveys of the activities done were carried out and that allowed us to do a continuous improvement of all sessions.
Training in the digital tools used was also added to the planned training activities, to facilitate the participation of all innovation agents.

Calendar of activities of the Open Innovation Cycle 2020
The activities carried out for the innovation – prototyping cells were the following, in which work has been done using the Design Thinking and Sprint methodologies and the ZOOM and MIRO platforms:

Workshop 1: Empathy and creativity
In the first workshop, each innovation cell worked on empathy and creativity based on the challenges proposed by the Som-Inn Port members and selected by the APT Innovation Committee. From this session the first ideas emerged to be validated by the Innovation Committee of the APT to generate the concepts in the next sessions.

Workshop 2: Concept and design of the prototype
During the second workshop, the innovation cells worked on the concept and design of the prototype based on the ideas selected by the APT’s Innovation Committee.

Prototyping
From the second workshop, all prototyping experts for each cell start to materialize the idea. A support meeting was held where each team was presented with their prototyping expert.

Validation of the prototype with potential users
Once the prototypes were moderately developed, we facilitated its validation with the indications and support that each project needed, whether it was putting experts from different areas in contact, support meetings or provision of information and feedback extraction sheets.

Workshop 3.1: Business model
During the first part of the third workshop (Workshop 3.1.) we reviewed the status of each project and we began to do the Business Model Canvas of each project.

Workshop 3.2: Preparation of the pitch
In the second part of the third workshop (Workshop 3.2.) we focused on communicating projects online and each cell continued working on preparing its pitch.

Cell support meetings
Between workshops, all innovation cells were given the possibility of holding personalized support meetings to their needs: Validation of ideas raised with external experts in a specific field, prototype review, review of the tasks carried out during the sessions, etc.

Presentation of the projects results
Finally, the innovation-prototyping cells presented their projects at the 7th meeting of the Agora on November 3.
Of course this 2020 has been difficult, but for Som-Inn Port it has also been a year of improvement and learning. A different Open Innovation Cycle that will help us to be even more innovative and better in the coming cycles.

Regarding the five innovation projects, in which the APT participates and which were submitted to the Ports 4.0 call, they have all passed the first admission phase and now the videos and pitches are being prepared for the final selection phase:

We are also pleased that the Port Women Friendly project of the first Som-Inn Port Open Innovation Cycle, , as you have already been informed, was expanded to become the World Friendly / Port project to be presented in the intrapreneurship ideas section of the Ports 4.0 call, has also passed the first phase and has been admitted. A few weeks ago the innovation agents, colleagues from the APT, Anna Navarro and Nuria Bordas made the explanatory video and later defended their project with a pitch. We wish them good luck in this final selection phase!!
At Som-Inn Port we are preparing a new program of activities for this year which we will announce soon. The program will include news that we hope will be of interest and that will make the participation of innovation agents comfortable. The activities will continue to be carried out online as last year until the situation allows us to meet again in person.
