The development of two Ideas funded by Ports 4.0, in which the Port of Tarragona has acted as a facilitating agent, has now been completed.

On December 19, the results feedback meetings were held.

The MICROWORLD_PORTS Idea has identified bacterial strains capable of biodegrading plastics (microplastics and nanoplastics) in the Port of Tarragona and the adjacent coastline, with the aim of mitigating their environmental impact.

The project was developed by EURECAT, in collaboration with the University of Turku (Finland), Tokyo Medical and Dental University (Japan), and Tohoku University (Japan).

Meanwhile, the Digital Twin Platform Idea for Maritime Operations and Port Services has developed a platform featuring a digital twin–based planner to improve the efficiency of maritime operations and port services. The solution is based on data analytics, process optimization, and scenario simulation techniques, with the main objective of optimizing port call times and activities related to the seaside operations and terminal berthing, with a particular focus on port and techno-nautical services.

This Idea was developed by MC VALNERA and KAIZTEN ANALYTICS.

As the Port of Tarragona acted as a facilitating agent, several departments of the Port Authority of Tarragona were involved in the development of these Ideas, including Sustainability, Port Operations, Digital Strategy and Technology, and Innovation and Blue Economy.

Each of these Ideas received a €15,000 grant from Ports 4.0 for their development.
