The digital twin platform project for maritime operations and port services, led by MCValnera and Kaizten Analytics with the Port of Tarragona acting as a facilitating agent, was one of the ideas selected in the latest Ports 4.0 call for proposals. Its development officially began with a virtual kick-off meeting held on July 11.
Participants in the meeting included Antonio Gómez, Diego Souto, and Gonzalo Santos representing MCValnera; Airam Expósito and Jonay Moreno from Kaizten Analytics; and Núria Obiols, Iván Bernal, Nuri Bordas, Carme Tarragó, and Maria Pineda Vaquer from the Port of Tarragona.
The project involves the development of software that enables a digital twin planner to enhance the efficiency of maritime operations and port services using data analytics, process optimization, and scenario simulation techniques.
The main goal is to optimize port call times and the activities related to berthing operations, with a specific focus on technical-nautical port services. The platform aims to support berth scheduling and the delivery and coordination of port services.
This software will help manage maritime traffic more effectively, improve resource allocation and service sizing, optimize berth assignments, reduce port call times and carbon footprint, and promote greater transparency and collaboration—ultimately supporting data-driven decision-making.
