The project is led by SAFEEN Subsea, part of the maritime and shipping group of AD Ports Group (AD Ports).

Project description

SAFEEN Subsea has introduced the ‘SAFEEN Green’, an unmanned surface vessel (USV) designed to revolutionise inspection practices. This innovative vessel is capable of operating up to 200 nautical miles offshore, collecting high-quality geophysical and hydrographic data with minimal environmental impact.

Operated remotely from a Remote Operations Center on land, the SAFEEN Green uses advanced navigation and safety systems to ensure continuous and safe operations. Powered entirely by renewable electrical energy or biofuel, the vessel emits only 10% of the emissions of a traditional vessel, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

Its self-contained design improves safety by eliminating risks to personnel, and features such as dual autopilot systems, redundant HD cameras, and robust monitoring tools to ensure efficient and safe operation. In addition, its modular charging options and fuel efficiency offer a cost-effective solution without compromising performance.

Prior to being deployed to the UAE, SAFEEN Green underwent rigorous testing in the North Sea to assess its performance in extreme conditions. These tests ensured the reliability of the autonomous navigation system and the efficiency of its environmental monitoring and maritime safety capabilities.

Project objectives

The main objective of the SAFEEN Green project  is to transform maritime operations by implementing an unmanned vessel that reduces the carbon footprint and improves safety on the high seas. Through its autonomous navigation technology and remote operation system, it seeks to eliminate risks to personnel in hazardous environments and optimize efficiency in the collection of geophysical and hydrographic data.

In addition, this project aims to set a new standard in the port and maritime industry by significantly reducing polluting emissions thanks to the use of biofuels and renewable energy. It also aims to improve the sustainability of offshore operations by implementing innovative technologies that enable greater accuracy in underwater inspections and environmental monitoring.
