The València Port Pilots’ Corporation presents a pioneering advanced simulator in Spain

Project Manager

The project is being carried out by the Port of Valencia Pilots Corporation in collaboration with the technology company Wärtsila.

Description of the project

The València Port Pilots’ Corporation has implemented an advanced simulator,  pioneer in Spain, which allows any scenario to be reproduced in port waters, offering the ability to practice manoeuvres on vessels of various sizes and in varied operating conditions. This state-of-the-art device is designed to replicate real-world situations in port operations, improving efficiency and strengthening maritime safety.

This new technology, developed by the company Wärtsila, is capable of simulating all types of operating conditions or weather scenarios and allows any element of the port environment to be added to the simulations. In addition, it incorporates the Seagull 5000 display system.

It has two integrated simulators: one dedicated to manoeuvres and the other for Maritime Traffic (VTS). This versatility allows professionals, including pilots, maritime traffic operators and tugboats, to use the simulator in a joint and coordinated manner.

The project includes up to four independent modules that allow professionals to work in isolation in different rooms, adding significant realism to the simulations and providing comprehensive training to deal with various operational situations.

The investment in this advanced simulation technology reaffirms the commitment to maritime safety and the continuous training of its personnel. This approach demonstrates their willingness to be at the forefront of best practice and ensure a safe and efficient port environment.

Objectives of the project

The main objective of the project is to improve maritime safety in the region, as well as operational coordination through the training of pilots by implementing a simulator capable of verifying with guarantees the viability of maneuvers that present exceptional conditions. In addition, it also seeks to obtain numerical data on all kinds of situations.
